Visiting Us
Welcome!
We invite all with open minds and warm hearts to grow with us in a liberal religious tradition that encourages the exploration of spirituality and actively promotes a more just and sustainable world. We come from many different faith backgrounds (or no religion at all), and welcome all regardless of race, religion, nationality, or sexual identity.
NSUUS is located on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain about 30 miles north of New Orleans. We serve all of St. Tammany parish, and portions of the parishes and counties to the north, east, and west, including some areas of Mississippi.
Our sanctuary at 28662 Krentel Rd, Lacombe, LA, is less than a mile northwest of the intersection of Interstate 12 and Hwy 434 (exit 74), midway between Slidell and Covington. We have ample off street parking, and the facility is wheelchair accessible.
Sunday services begin at 11:00 a.m., and dress is casual. Services last approximately one hour, and after the service, you are welcome to stay for coffee, cookies, and fellowship.
A nursery is provided during the service for children 5 and under, as well as religious exploration classes for children kindergarten and older.
What to expect at a typical Sunday morning worship service:
Words of welcome and announcements
Lighting a flaming Chalice, the symbol of our faith
A multigenerational segment, such as “a story for all ages”
Music, both instrumental and vocal, in a variety of styles throughout the service
A time for lifting up the joys and concerns from the congregation
A meditation or prayer
Readings - ancient or contemporary
A sermon given by a member of the congregation, a visiting minister, a guest speaker, or a video sermon from another UU congregation
An offering: financial donations for the life and work of the congregation. Once a month, offerings support a local community organization.
Closing words or benediction
Extinguishing of our Chalice
