Building friendships and sharing experiences
North Shore Unitarian Universalists provides many opportunities to come together to build friendships and to share experiences. Throughout the year we celebrate seasonal changes and special events with pot luck dinners in our church sanctuary or in our labyrinth garden. We also meet in smaller groups in Circle Suppers and in our Book Club. Circle Suppers: Not just any PotluckParticipating in Circle Suppers is great way to get to know NSUUS members and friends in a smaller, more personal setting, while enjoying a delicious meal and engaging conversation. Each month, on the second Saturday, from September through April, members and friends in our congregation open their homes for Circle Suppers. A coordinator recruits the Hosts and assigns the participants. Most suppers begin at 6:30 p.m. The Host calls participants with directions and coordinates what each participant brings as part of the dinner. Usually 6-8 people are assigned per house including the Host and Hostess. It is not necessary to be a great cook or to cook at all to participate in Circle Suppers. Some of the dishes requested are salad, bread, wine; and dessert; some dessert donations have been known to be "store bought". Participation in Circle Suppers does not require that a member Host a dinner. Socialization and the spirit of comradeship are more important, although some folks do enjoy hosting more than once each season. Book Club: Discussions and moreBook Club meets on Sunday evening about every 6 weeks, however, this is a flexible schedule that is agreed on ahead of time. Each Club meeting begins with a potluck supper and then members enjoy a discussion of the current book. We pick a wide variety of reading material and though not everyone likes every book selected, everyone can find something of interest to discuss. Our discussions are seldom limited to the book, but frequently expand on life themes that the book's subject presents. If this format appeals to you, join the Book Club. If you like to read, or want to read more, join the Book Club. If you enjoy wonderful food, lively discussions and fellowship, join the Book Club. It is another way to get to know other members and friends and is always interesting. |
