Grow spiritually and personally

Chalice Circles at North Shore Unitarian Universalists allow circle members to grow spiritually and personally by practicing a format of respectful listening and sharing. Chalice Circles have sustained many of us both through normal and trying times, such as the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Bonding in a small group

A Chalice Circle is a small group of 6-10 members who join in a written covenant among themselves to nurture each other. Members of the Chalice Circles form bonds with each other, talking, learning, working and socializing.

Expanded opportunities for growth

Chalice Circles offer members expanded opportunities for growth, caring and connection within our church community. As a shared ministry in this congregation, Chalice Circles are always open to new members. An empty chair sits in each circle as a visual reminder of the openness and outreach of this ministry.

Have a voice and be heard

Designed to foster relational individuality, Chalice Circles affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person. Each person can have a voice and be heard. Unlike a therapy group, there are no particular personal issues that are targeted for feedback. At each meeting, the group explores some aspect of spirituality to bring people into right relationship with each other and with the larger world.

Service component

Service is a strong component of Chalice Circles. Members choose one project to serve the church community and one project to serve the larger community. Projects are chosen by the Circle according to the abilities and desires of the members.
