Inviting all with open minds and warm hearts
We invite you to grow with us in a liberal religious tradition that respects ideas, values, diversity, and encourages the exploration of spirituality and life's meaning. We promote the good in ourselves and in others by embracing moral and ethical values that honor humanity and respect justice. Providing fellowship and support for allOur community provides fellowship and support for individuals and families of all ages. We honor life's transitions with ceremonies. We celebrate changes in the season and special days throughout the year. Sunday Service and Religious ExplorationWe meet each Sunday at 11:00 a.m. for our worship and religious education. Our services are contemporary. Dress is casual. Our Religious Exploration program provides children and young adults with warm and exciting experiences that focus on how we live each day within our Unitarian Universalist morals and values. Affiliated with other New Orleans congregationsNorth Shore UU is a member of the Greater New Orleans Unitarian Universalists (GNOUU) along with First Church New Orleans and Community Church UU. CELSJR Quarterly Report publishedThe Center for Ethical Living and Social Justice Renewal, CELSJR (http://celsjr.org) has published what is to be the first of a series of quarterly reports. It can be found on the GNOUU website at: Nationally, North Shore UU is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA). Resistance and Transformation: Unitarian Universalist Social Justice HistoryA Tapestry of Faith Program for Adults from the UUA Members and friends of First Church, North Shore, and Community Church UU are all warmly invited to be a part of testing through participation in this brand-new UU curricula for adults on the history of social justice action in the UUA. One session (see below) deals specifically with the civil rights era in the New Orleans area, and the fall-out that was experienced. The classes will be led by combinations of Rev. Melanie, Rev. Jim, Bonnie Schmidt & Jim Long of NSUU, and Ministerial Candidate Deanna Vandiver. The three GNOUU churches are part of a denomination-wide effort by congregation selected by the Tapestry of Faith department of the UUA to try out this preliminary version of the course, and to add our feedback to help make it stronger and better. We were the only UU cluster selected for this test. To make this truly a cluster effort, class locations will rotate among all three GNOUU churches. Please note the session schedule below. Please be aware that your participation is urged even if you know that you cannot attend every single session. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGED SCHEDULE

Service and Religious Exploration February 12th We will review the "Six Sources" of our faith as we explore the new hymnal, Singing the Journey. Our musical services all well-loved, so come enjoy, whether you are a singer or more of a listener. Patricia Stout facilitates, joined by the NSUUS choir, Patrick Mackin on guitar, and Melissa Rousseaux on piano. Terry Van Brunt of the Greater New Orleans UU (GNOUU) Board shares the larger UUA scoop on the new hymnal, for our education and inspiration. Do you have questions or suggestions?
View the UUA Video: Unitarian Universalists Rebuild New OrleansThere is a new UUA video on the website of the Unitarian Universalist Association about the three churches of the Greater New Orleans UU cluster and the Center for Ethical Living and Social Justice Renewal! Unitarian Universalists Rebuild New Orleans (approx. 8 minutes) The three Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations in New Orleans, like the city itself, were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. However that devastation became an inspiration, not an obstacle, to the members of all three churches. Their resilience and determination have been in evidence every day of the last five years as they rebuild not only their churches, but the city of New Orleans itself. |
